Studies this site relies on

Ordered by strength of design. Conclusions are quoted verbatim from each abstract as indexed by PubMed; read the full paper before relying on any of them.

  1. Clinical trial Neuro Endocrinol Lett · 2002 PMID 12195242

Pineal-regulating tetrapeptide epitalon improves eye retina condition in retinitis pigmentosa

Khavinson V, Razumovsky M, Trofimova S, et al.

Epitalon therapy in patients with degenerative retinal lesions results in a positive clinical effect in 90% of the cases. The analysis of Epitalon effects suggests that the tetrapeptide participates in the mechanisms of transcription common for the epiphysis and retina.

  2. Primary study Biogerontology · 2025 PMID 40908429

Epitalon increases telomere length in human cell lines through telomerase upregulation or ALT activity

    Al-Dulaimi S, Thomas R, Matta S, et al.

Only a minor increase in ALT activity was observed in Normal cells, thereby showing that it was specific to cancer cells. Our data suggests that epitalon can extend telomere length in normal healthy mammalian cells through the upregulation of hTERT mRNA expression and telomerase enzyme activity.

  3. Primary study In Vivo · 2006 PMID 16634527

Effect of the synthetic pineal peptide epitalon on spontaneous carcinogenesis in female C3H/He mice

Kossoy G, Anisimov VN, Ben-Hur H, et al.

Treatment with Epitalon slowed down the development of metastases from spontaneous tumors, and no metastases were found in the experimental mice. These data highlight the antimetastatic effect of Epitalon as part of its oncostatic properties.

  4. Primary study Bull Exp Biol Med · 2002 PMID 12459848

Epithalon decelerates aging and suppresses development of breast adenocarcinomas in transgenic her-2/neu mice

Anisimov VN, Khavinson VKh, Alimova IN, et al.

Epithalon prolonged the lifetime of mice with breast tumors by 1.4 times (p<0.05). These results indicate that Epithalon possesses geroprotective activity and inhibits breast carcinogenesis in transgenic mice, which is probably related to suppression of HER-2/neu expression.

  5. Review Int J Mol Sci · 2025 PMID 40141333

Overview of Epitalon-Highly Bioactive Pineal Tetrapeptide with Promising Properties

Araj SK, Brzezik J, Mądra-Gackowska K, et al.

Moreover, despite the considerable volume of research on the biological and pharmacodynamic characteristics of Epitalon, the quantity of physico-chemical and structural investigations of this peptide remains quite limited. This review aims to conclude the most important findings from such studies, thus presenting the current state of …
