Privacy policy
Residue is a static reference site. It does not ask who you are.
This policy covers residue.info, published by Residue (“we”, “us”). It describes how the site works today; if that changes, this page changes first.
What does Residue collect?
- No accounts or comments. The only form is the optional evidence-update email signup described below. It asks for your email address and nothing else.
- No advertising or tracking scripts. Fonts and images are served from this site, not from third-party services.
- No analytics. The site runs no analytics script.
What is stored in your browser?
If you switch to the dark theme, the choice is saved in your browser's local storage under the key theme so the next page opens the same way. It never leaves your device and you can clear it in your browser settings. The site search downloads a static index file and runs entirely in your browser; your search terms are not sent to us. If you close the email signup box, a note is saved in local storage so it doesn't reappear for 30 days.
What do server logs record?
Like any website, the hosting provider that serves Residue processes standard request data (IP address, browser user agent, requested URL and time) to deliver pages and protect the service. We do not combine it with other data or use it to identify visitors.
What happens when I email you?
We use your message and address only to reply and, for corrections, to verify the claim. Emailing us does not add you to a mailing list; only the signup form does, and only after you confirm.
What happens when I sign up for emails?
Some pages have an optional email signup form. There's no checkbox to tick; the short note under each button says what you'll get and how often. If you sign up, Residue stores:
- your email address;
- which form you used and the page address where you signed up, without anything after the path (no search terms, calculator inputs or other values typed into the page);
- when you signed up and, later, when you confirmed;
- which version of the signup wording you saw;
- a shortened, one-way code derived from your IP address, used only to stop automated abuse. We can't turn it back into your IP address.
No health data. The form never asks about your health, conditions, medications, doses or treatment, and we don't attach that kind of information to your email address.
Confirmation first. Before Residue sends any update, we'll send one email asking you to confirm. Nothing else is sent unless you confirm. Sending hasn't started yet, so for now your address is only stored.
How we use it. Only to send the emails described next to the form and to honor your unsubscribe. Emails contain no ads, affiliate links or promotions.
Who processes signup data for us?
- Railway (railway.com) hosts this site and the database that stores signups.
- Google (Google Sheets) holds a private copy of the list so we can view it. It isn't shared publicly.
- When sending starts, the email delivery provider will be named here before the first email goes out.
These services process the data only to provide their service to us.
Do you sell or share my information?
No. Residue doesn't sell or share personal information, doesn't rent or trade email addresses, and runs no advertising or retargeting pixels. We never pass your email address to vendors, clinics, advertisers or data brokers.
Do you honor Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track?
Yes. We treat a Global Privacy Control (GPC) or Do Not Track signal from your browser as a request to opt out. Because we do not sell or share data or run cross-site tracking, there is nothing further to switch off.
How long do you keep my email address, and how do I unsubscribe?
We keep it until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Every email will have a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can also email privacy@residue.info. Unsubscribes take effect right away. After you unsubscribe, we keep only your address on a do-not-email list so we never email you again, unless you ask us to delete it completely.
Can I see, correct or delete my data?
Yes, wherever you live. Email privacy@residue.info and we'll respond within 30 days. We'll never ask for more than your email address to unsubscribe. People under 18 should not sign up.
